Gibraltar Cork helmet (˜1980)
In this collection since: 19.07.2009
0334 Firefighter helmet from Gibraltar. The British crown colony on the southern point of Spain, only measures around 20 x 4 km. The peninsula has beside the airport fire brigade only one fire station. The yellow cork helmet is predecessor of the in 1990 imported helmet No: 197, CGF Gallet F1A PA.
Manufacturer of the helmet ist the company Helmets Ltd from the UK. The helmet was built in the head size medium (57 to 59). The helmet was manufactured 1980th. The helmet seems to be one of the last helmets of this type. The helmet interior is made of plastic, the outside of cork covered with canvas. The high form and the comb are part of the security. The pressed cork helmet (cork with resin under high pressure and with a plastic coating (formerly linen) coated), has a very strong tradition in England. The inside helmet from leather seems virtually unused, the banding of nylon looks almost modern. The chin strap of wide, black leather can be adjusted via buttons in the length.
The ranking is adjusted to the identification marking in the UK. The owner of this helmet was therefore a simple "Leading Fireman“. The helmet is in excellent condition.

The complete rank marking is as follows:

Yellow helmet, no stripes = Fire Fighter
Yellow helmet, a black stripe = Leading Fireman
Yellow helmet, two black stripes = Corporal
White helmet, a black stripe = Station Officer
White helmet, a wide black band = Assistant Division Officer
White helmet, a narrow and a broad black stripe = Deputy Assistant Chief Officer
White helmet, two wide black bands = Deputy Chief Officer
White helmet, a wide black band in strength of two Deputy Chief Officer = Chief Officer
