Tajikistan Steel helmet (˜1940)
In this collection since: 19.05.2017
0936 Fire helmet from Tajikistan. The fire helmet is basically a steel helmets SSh-40 of the Russian army.
From Wikipedia:
The SSh-40 was the last and most widely used service helmet of the Soviet Union during World War II. The liner consisted of three (later four during the post-war time) cloth- or oilcloth pads that were tied with a cotton drawstring for size adjustment. The chin strap is made of leather. The chinstrap ends were connected with a buckle, and a semicircular piece of metal was clamped at the end of the long chinstrap. Unlike the SSh-36 and SSh-39, the SSh-40 was only made in sizes 1 - 3. The SSh-40 was supplemented by the SSh-60 and eventually replaced by the SSh-68.
The helmet was provided with a comb for use in the fire department. The comb was welded on. At the front of the comb is a star. A symbol that was very common in the states of the Eastern Bloc and the states of the former Soviet Union.
In 1991, Tajikistan declared itself independent from Soviet Union.
