Fire helmet from Singapore. The black polycarbonate helmet was built by MSA, USA. The helmet type is called Topgard. The helmet was produced in 1972. The valid standard was the ANSI Z89.1-1969. In addition to this standard, the helmet was also released to the standards of Singapore. In the helmet there is a sticker with the inscription: "Singapore Institute of Standards and Industrial Research No 344884"
The helmet is adjustable to head sizes from 6 1/2 to 7 ¾ inches. The helmet was very common worldwide. See also helmet number 0899, Australia and 0996, Afghanistan.
At the front there is the metal badge of the Singapore fire brigades as it was used on the leather helmets in colonial times.
The badge shows a lion under a palm tree. Below them the words "Let Singapore Flourish" (Sanskrit: Majulah Singapura). Although Singapore became independent from the United Kingdom on September 1, 1963, the colonial emblem has still been used on this helmet.
The name "Singapore" comes from Sanskrit. It is composed of Singha (lion) and Pura ("city").
