German Reich until 1918 Brass helmet (˜1895)
In this collection since: 08.05.2017
0927 Fire helmet from Germany. The brass helmet with the distinctive, large crest comes from the village of Bonndorf in the Black Forest. Base of the helmet is a brass helmet in Ulmer form. (See helmets 0064 and 0818, Germany). The helmet bowl seems to consist of two halves. Inside a continuous seam is visible. It is hidden from the outside by the helmet crest. At the front a thin brass rail is attached. The comb is punched. Here a ball point or a horse hair bush could be attached. The helmet has a massive scale chain with single, large brass scales. The attachment of the scales chain on the sides via a screw that protrudes far out of the helmet. The leather inner helmet has no single tongues. Through the threaded string, the leather contracts and forms waves.
