Netherlands Leatherhelmet (˜1930)
In this collection since: 06.04.2017
0911 Fire helmet from the Netherlands. The black helmet was worn around 1930. He is the predecessor of the helmet number 0774, Netherlands, with whom he has a lot of similarity. The helmet shell was made of cork. Cork helmets were widespread in Britain and Belgium during this period. The helmet consists of three parts. Only the two brim are made of leather. The front brim is very thin. It was originally reinforced with a brass edge guard. The rear brim is made of thick leather. Here no edge protection was attached. The seam at which the three parts are sewn together is covered with a leather strip on the outside. Inside, the helmet is lined with a fabric. The large neck protection leather is attached to the edge and glued to the rear brim. The lateral cockades and the distinctive, angular comb are made of brass. The metal badge of the Dutch Fire Brigade was originally attached to the front. Here are only the two holes to see.
The helmet was worn by a fire brigade in the Limburg region.
