Fire helmet from Eritrea. The fire helmet is basically a French fire helmet. The helmet is based on the army steel helmet type Adrian M26, but was built as a M33 with a new comb for the fire department. For details on the helmets, see helmet number 0385, 0452 and 0038, France. The helmet was used in France in the period between 1950 and 1970. He originally had the usual French emblem on the front. The traces of the badge are still clearly visible in the very battered surface. Instead of the French emblem, the badge of the E.L.F was mounted here when the helmet came to Eritrea. The E.L.F (Eritrean Liberation Front) was a rebel group that fought for Eritrea's independence between 1970 and 1990 and merged with the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) in 1991 when it took over rule in Eritrea. |
