United States Synthetic helmet (˜1950)
In this collection since: 03.01.2017
0854 Fire helmet from the USA. Manufacturer of the phenol resin helmet is the company MSA. The helmet type was called "Phenolic". It corresponds in construction to the helmet model "Skullgard" which exists since about 1940. MSA wanted, due to great demand, to build a helmet with the Phenolic model, which was able to cope with higher ambient temperatures. These were neither the model Skullgard (helmet 0243, USA), nor the helmet Topgard built from 1936 (see helmet 0714, USA). MSA built the helmet shell from seven layers of phenolic-reinforced plastic, achieving heat resistance up to about 230 ° C (450 ° F) without the helmet deforming. He even held splashes of molten metal. The helmet type Phenolic existed since about 1950.
The helmet was used at the Wayne Township Fire Department, Indianapolis. At the front is the leather front label with the inscription W.T.F.D. Above it is the lettering "Chaplain" and a cross.
The Wayne Township Fire Department protects 36 square miles in the western central section of Indianapolis. Last year (2016), WTFD responded to more than 13,000 emergency calls. The fire department has 5 fire stations, 5 fire trucks, 2 turntable ladders, 3 platoon leader, 3 security officers, 3 shift EMS duty officers and 4 ambulances. 130 firefighters and 30 civilians work 24 hours.
The chaplain of the fire brigade has, among other things, the task of providing firefighters and their families with comfort and help.
In addition to Christian clerics with a cross on their helm, there were also Jewish clerics with a Star of David.

The mission of the Federation of Fire Chaplains is:
-to bring together persons interested in providing an effective chaplain service.
-to give aid, comfort, and help to firefighters and their families.
-to work toward the betterment of all areas of the fire and emergency service.
-to serve God, to aid humanity, our communities, our government, our religions, our Country, and the quality of life.
-to help mankind in developing their most noble characteristic, that of serving others.
-to help bring about a better understanding among all people with mutual harmony and respect regardless of one's level of authority.
-and to achieve a single healing, unifying spirit of love for God and each other.
