Leather helmet (˜1853)
In this collection since: 04.06.2016 |
0799 |
Fire helmet from Germany. The leather helmet comes from Bavaria. It is a helmet M1853, a leather helmet from the Bavarian military.
The helmet was converted to fire helmet. This was not only common practice in Bavaria. The reconstruction took place with different combs and chin strap rosettes. The Bavarian lion is often present, but flat rosettes have also been used, as here. Interesting is the mourning card which belongs to the helmet. On the back of this card is the portrait of the firefighter Ferdinand Schantzl who was owner of this helmet. He died on 15 August 1897 at the age of 41.
