German Reich until 1918 Leather helmet, Pickelhaube (˜1910)
In this collection since: 17.12.2015
0729 Fire helmet from Germany. Pickelhaube of the German Reich.
From Wikipedia:
From the kingdom, which had been the dominant state of the German Reich since 1871, the republican free-state Prussia was established in 1918. In the period of national socialism in 1932, this was almost completely in the German Reich. In 1947, the Allied Control Council also formally declared it dissolved. The capital of the duchy of Prussia was Koenigsberg, that of the kingdom and later Freistaat of Berlin.
The Pickelhaube bears the emblem of Prussia. On the basis of the Prussian eagle, the wearing time can be exactly dated. From 1900 to 1925 the eagle carries a crown, a scepter and he looks to the left. From 1925 to 1930, he had no crown and scepter, he looked to the left. From 1930 to 1936, the form of the eagle is more modern and narrower. His style is simpler and he looks to the right.
Accordingly, it can classify the Pickelhaube into the period between 1900 and 1925. While the Pickelhauben of Prussia on the chest of the eagle have a common fire brigade sign (helmet and axes - see helmet 0648), the coat of arms of the respective provinces are placed in the Prussian provinces. Here you can see the coat of arms of the Rhine province.
From Wikipedia: The Rhine province (Rhineland, Rhine Prussia, the Rhineland) was one of the Prussian provinces, which formed the Prussian state from the 22nd of June 1822 to the dissolution after the Second World War. It included the Rhineland between Bingen am Rhein and Kleve.
The Pickelhaube of the fire brigade was for high officers' degrees. It has nickel plated fittings, cross blade fitting with tip can be unscrewed for a “Paradebusch”. This is made from black or white horse hairs. Domed nickel-plated shed chain, fastening with slotted screws. The inner color of the helmet is brown. To the left, the cockade of Prussia in the colors black-white-black, to the right the cockade of the German Reich in the colors black-white-red are attached.

For more details on the Pickelhaube, see helmet 0033, Germany.
