Netherlands Steel helmet (˜1928)
In this collection since: 22.09.2015
0706 Steel helmet from the Netherlands. The steel helmet of the Dutch army was developed in 1928 and deployed during the Second World War. From this time comes the helmet shown here. On the front is the coat of arms of the Netherlands. The helmet was taken over by the German army and in Germany given to a unit of the Reichluftschutzbund RLB (Air raid). For this purpose, a badge of the RLB was installed above the existing coat of arms. The RLB was founded in 1935 at the instigation of Hermann Göring. As Reichsmarschall of the Luftwaffe (Airforce), Göring was also responsible for the air protection of the population in air raids. The helmets of the RLB were initially dark green before they became dark blue from 1938 and were equipped with the double swing of the air guards. (See Helmets 0008/0424, Germany). For more information on the helmet, see helmet 0076, The Netherlands. See also Helm 0522, Germany.
