United Kingdom (UK) Cork helmet (˜1977)
In this collection since: 22.09.2015
0700 Firefighter helmet from Great Britain. Manufacturer of the helmet is the British company Helmets Ltd. (Cromwell) The helmet was built in the head size medium (57 to 59 resp. 7 to 7 ¼). The helmet was manufactured in 1977. For details of the helmet and the ranking, see helmets 0169 UK / 0334 Gibraltar / 0304 Cyprus.
On the front, the helmet has the badge of the Army Fire Service (EIIR).
The Army Fire Service (AFS), later the Army Fire Department, was the fire brigade, which carried out fire fighting on British army grounds. Until 1959, his personnel consisted mainly of soldiers until the fire brigade was operated by civilian firefighters. It was part of the Royal Army Service Corps until it came to the Royal Army Ordonance Corps in 1965. Under both units the Army Fire Service was self-employed and had its own badge on helmet or belt. The Army Fire Service came later to the fire department of the Ministry of Defense. (See helmet 0183, 0381 Great Britain)
The helmet was equipped with a protective visor. The visor was placed over the front screen. A spring which connects both sides runs behind the helmet. Thus, the visor is always pulled against the front screen.
