France Brass helmet (˜1850)
In this collection since: 29.06.2015
0689 Firefighter helmet from France. The brass helmet was worn in the time around 1850. The helmet is the successor of helmet 0439, France. The striking, high crest is screwed onto the helmet, it is pointed out at the front. It is much more pointed than the Helmet 0498, France. This was worn from 1880, shortly afterwards. The crest is the same crest, which is also used on helmets with horse hair rape (see helmet 0161 France). On the front are the coat of arms of the Sapeurs-Pompiers (fire-brigade), and the exploding grenade. Underneath is the label with the inscription "Srs Pompiers de Damremont”. Eye and neck screen are reinforced with a brass mount. Lateral brass rosettes hold the flaps, which consist of pressed brass plate. The inside of the shed chain is covered with leather and padded with cardboard. Damremont is a commune in the department of Haute-Marne about 80 km northwest of Belfort.
