From Wikipedia:
The fire brigades in Latvia are classified as "state fire extinguishers and rescue services" (Latvian: Valsts ugunsdzēsības un glābšanas dienesta - VUGD), to the Ministry of the Interior, which can be reached around the clock by telephone numbers 01 or 112. Latvian fire brigades differ from fire brigades In the German-speaking area in the personnel structure All fire brigades are professional fire brigades with full-time firefighters and women, only voluntary fire brigades are trained in major damage situations or catastrophes The local authorities are different from the German fire brigade system: while in Germany small municipalities have their own fire brigade, the fire brigades are based in the capital Riga (8 fire stations) as well as in the 25 larger district cities Also technical assistance, in particular in the field of rescue of people and animals. In contrast to the American fire service system, the rescue service is not operated by the fire brigade. The highest authority for fire-fighting is the Latvian Ministry of the Interior.
