Slovenia Leather helmet (˜1900)

0676 Fire helmet from Slovenia. The leather helmet is only partly made of leather. While the helmet is made of leather, the eye and neck brim are made of sheet metal and are painted black. Both brim are connected to each other laterally, and a brass mount has been attached to reinforce the edge. The brim are sewn with the helmet. To cover the seam, a red leather strap was attached on the outside. This band is typical for helmets from Austria or Austria Hungary . The high brass comb was attached with cotter pins at the helmet. On the front is a brass badge from the assortment of Konrad Rosenbauer Linz. It could be shaped as desired. The signature is missing in helmet number 0491 Austria, but is present here. The engraved village "Salovci" is located in the easternmost part of Slovenia on the border to Hungary. The village of Salovici have also the Hungarian name Sal. The helmet was used in the period around 1900.
