German Reich until 1918 Leather helmet (˜1910)
In this collection since: 21.05.2015
0673 Fire helmet from Germany. The black leather helmet was worn in the time around 1910. Its high helmet shape and the brass mountings at the front and rear screen correspond to the time. It has a high, narrow massing comb on a wide comb flange which is attached to the helmet. The helmet comes from the Kingdom of Prussia, but the helmet form corresponds to the Wurttemberg regulations. In the catalog of Ziegler from 1912, this helmet is described as a Wuerttemberg helmet. On the front is a firefighter badge with an oval crest shield. On this, there is the the Prussian eagle located. On the chest of the Prussian eagle is a further coat of arms. Also on it is the Prussian eagle. The coat of arms of Hohenzollern can be seen on his chest. For further information on the coat of arms see helmet 0486 Germany.
From Wikipedia: Hohenzollernsche Land (short Hohenzollern) denote the Prussian government district Sigmaringen, which until the dissolution of the Freistaates Prussia after the Second World War. Almost all the rights which a Prussian province possessed (including the representation in the Prussian State Council) had been transferred to the Hohenzollerns Landen. Today, the area is located in Baden-Württemberg, it no longer represents a geographical unit.
The large helmet cap made of brass is from the product range of the manufacturer J.G.Lieb, Bieberach an der Riss. In the catalog from 1890 it is shown as number 3. (See book Th. Herminghaus, page 32). This large coat of arms was found at many fire brigades and not only in Prussia or Bavaria. Of course the small coat of arms in the oval coat of arms varied according to the state. The helmet emblem was used until 1900. From 1900 a single, large Prussian eagle was brought to the Prussian helms. In the case of fire-brigades from Prussia, the eagle had a coat of arms consisting of helmet and axes on his breast. On the fire helmets from Prussian provinces, there was the coat-of-arms of the province on the breast of the eagle. (See helmets 648/729)
