United States Leather helmet (˜1965)
In this collection since: 16.04.2015
0661 Fire helmet from the USA. The manufacturer company is Cairns & Brothers of Clifton New Jersey. The white leather helmet is the model 5A New Yorker. Originally, this model was developed and built for the FDNY, the fire brigade of New York. The FDNY, however, used today a successor helmet (see helmet 333), the Morning Pride Ben Franklin II. The helmet comes from the Boston Fire Department in the state of Massachusetts. On request to the fire brigade of the city of Boston, Michael Gerry, Secretary / Webmaster of the Boston Fire Historical Society writes: "The helm front is safe from the city of Boston. Not many fire brigades call the position of the officer with "District Chief". Most fire brigades would call the rank "Batallion Chief" or other. Also, most cities have no 12 districts in their city. Based on the front plate and the condition of the helmet I would put the helmet in the years 1960 to 1970. "
While many helmets have traditionally been equipped with the Bourke Eyes, the foldable eye protection, they have not been mounted with this helmet.
In district 12 there are 2 divisions with 35 firefighters. In the period between 20.10.1971 to 30.9.2011 was John J. Howard District Chief in District 12. The fire station of the District Chief was the station in the 945 Canterbury St. in Roslindale. Here, the Engine 53 and Ladder 16 were also stationed ( 2005)

For more information on the helmet, see No. 331,645,657, USA.
