United States Synthetic helmet (˜1955)
In this collection since: 26.02.2015
0650 Fire helmet from Germany. The black glass fiber helmet was built as an export model by the German company Schuberth in Braunschweig. Schuberth built a series of glass fiber helmets, among other things in the years 1970 to 1980 a helmet for the fire brigades of Switzerland. (See Helmets 259/398). The helmet has a massive helmet shell, the typical shape of American helmets and an eyelet for hanging. Only the inner helmet looks German. It comes from the German DIN 14940 helmets, which were built among other things also by Schuberth at the same time. The helmet has no manufacturing marks or manufacturer date on the helmet. All relevant data were probably on a Lable, which is missing on this helmet. It is assumed that this is a predecessor model of the helmet type US-Feu. Because of the leather front plate with the inscription "USA FD" the helmet can be classified into the period from 1950 to 1960. The helmets of the military bases in the USA and also Germany were equipped with this front plate. (See helmet 705) Around 1965 the front plate was removed and only the letters "FD" were glued (see helmet 711/767). Later helmet generations, from the year 2000 on, had no more badges. (See helmets 359/380/403)
