0648 Fire helmet from Germany. Pickelhaube of the German Reich.
From Wikipedia:
From the kingdom, which had been the dominant state of the German Reich since 1871, the republican free-state Prussia was established in 1918. In the period of national socialism in 1932, this was almost completely in the German Reich. In 1947, the Allied Control Council also formally declared it dissolved. The capital of the duchy of Prussia was Koenigsberg, that of the kingdom and later Freistaat of Berlin.
The helmet have the emblem of Prussia. On the basis of the Prussian eagle, the using time can be exactly dated. From 1900 to 1925 the eagle have a crown, a scepter and he looks to the left. From 1925 to 1930, he had no crown and scepter, he looked to the left. From 1930 to 1936, the form of the eagle is more modern and narrower. His style is simpler and he looks to the right.
Accordingly to this, the helmet can classify into the period between 1900 and 1925. While the helmet of Prussia on the eagle's chest have a fire-sign (helmet and axes), the arms of the respective provinces are placed in the Prussian provinces at this point (see Helm 729).
This special helmet was was for high officers' from the fire department. It has nickel plated fittings. The cross blade fitting with tip can be unscrewed for the “Paradebusch”. This is made from black or white horse hairs. Domed nickel-plated shed chain, fastening with slotted screws. The inner color of the helmet is brown. On the left side, the cockade of Prussia in the colors black-white-black is mounted, on the right, the cockade of the German Reich in the colors black-white-red is mounted.
