Algeria Steel helmet (˜1950)
In this collection since: 23.11.2014
0640 Fire helmet from Algeria. The fire helmet is basically a French fire helmet. The helmet is based on the Adrian M26 army helmet, but was built as a M33 with a new comb for the fire brigade. The helmet was thus used in almost all French fire brigades until the beginning of the 1980s. See helmets 38/385/452. As a French protectorate between 1830 and 1962 Algeria was influenced by France. Algeria also has a French fire service helmet. However, the helmet does not have the usual badge in the front, but a brass badge. The oval brass ensemble shows two upwards stretched hands, fire and waves, as well as the two words "ambulance" and“protection“. While the fire brigades of France had the symbol of the grenade on the helmet comb, it was normally not used in Algeria. But this helmet is a "dumped" helmet from France, which was made by adding the emblem to the Algerian fire helmet. In Gallet's subsequent helmets there is a simpler badge on the front.
