German Reich until 1918 Leather helmet (˜1900)
In this collection since: 05.07.2014
0606 Fire helmet from Germany. The most striking feature of this helmet is the very flat, wide brass comb. The Rhenish-Westphalian flat comb is a novelty of the leather helmets. This special crest was also worn by fire brigades in Schleswig-Holstein and Bremen. The helmet was designed according to the Prussian model. The two holes in the front characterize the helmet as a former Prussian army helmet. On the front is an elaborate brass badge showing a fire spray with suction hose, torch, ax and helmet. The badge comes from J.G. Lieb, Bieberach. In the catalog "Helmet Coat of Arms" of 1890 this emblem is the number 15. It was offered for one Mark (German money to this time) in bronze and for 1.30 Marks gilded.
