Switzerland Brass helmet (˜1891)
In this collection since: 27.04.2014
0599 Fire helmet from Basel, Switzerland. Fire helmets in Switzerland oriented, depending on the position, on the early helmets from France and Germany. The helmets from Basel are based on France until 1880. In the period between 1880 and 1890, a brass helmet in German sample, was used. This helmet already had the distinctive comb with “Baselstab” on the front, helmet emblem with Baselstab and also rosettes on chinstrap. From 1891, the front badge was increased, the lateral rosettes were replaced by hooks. The helmet shown here, is from the period around 1891 and was carried up to the introduction of leather helmets in 1918. Firefighters wore the helmet without horsehair bush. This was reserved for officers. According to the rules of the Fire Department, the white plume was reserved for the Chef de Corps (Officer). Majors had a red, Captains a red- black and Lieutenants a black busch.
