Firemen uniform of the former GDR. The work suit consists of a overal, a jacket, trousers, a fire helmet (see helmet no .: 412) a hook strap and gloves. In the GDR, the fire department has been divided into the categories professional fire brigade, duty firefighters and volunteer firefighters. The fire brigade was subordinate not to the municipality but to the Ministry of the Interior. Volunteer fire department and duty firefighters, however, were subject to the municipalities or the operating lines.
