France Steel helmet (˜1932)
In this collection since: 29.03.2014
0590 Fire helmet from France. The helmet is a former steel helmet of the French army. The helmet of the type Adrian M26 is successor to the M15 helmet (see number 149) and predecessor of M33 (see number 38).
While the striking detail of the M15 is the circumferential bead, the M26 can be detected on the 4 double rivets of the inner helmet attachment. The inside helmet itself is much better constructed; the helmet shell is much higher than the M15. The helmets of firefighters were, as here, painted dark blue and later chrome (see helmet 366). At the front, the uniform insignia of the French fire brigades was attached. However, it was removed. The holes of the screws are still present. Instead of the badge, the badge of the German Air Defense League (Luftschutzbund) was attached. A circumferential white strip of 25mm height was painted. Many helmets in units of the German air defense are prey helmets that have been provided with the air-raid swingarm. See Helmets 424/655. While the helmet already has an inner helmet as the later M33, the M26 helmet (number 424) has a 4-part inner helmet from the predecessor helmets M15 installed.
