Helmet of the civil defense of the former GDR. For details on the civil defense (air defense) see helmet number 0300, GDR. The gray helmet made of fiberglass polyester with the form of a industry helmet was produced since 1974. It is quite massive. The inside helmet is made of synthetic leather, the four-point harness and head pad of wide strips of linen, make a massive impression also. The size is adjusted by cords, which are guided through a hole in the headband. At 4 leather straps, the long neck leather can be attached. Besides being used in civil defense, the helmet also was used at the Red Cross, mine rescue and from youth fire fighters. This helmet was used at a volunteer fire department. Its owner had held the position of squad leader. This shows the 3 circulating, each 1 cm wide white-red-white stripes. The helmet of the type GuP0001b is manufactured in size 2. This helmet has no side air vents as they are attached on helmet 0585, GDR. Helm rank markings: Director of operations: 3 strips, each 1 cm high, white-red-white Squad leader (Head Command Fire Department): 3 strips, each 1 cm high, white-black-white Platoon leaders (heads of department): 1 strip, 2 cm high, white Group leader: 1 strip, 1cm high, white.
