France Synthetic helmet (˜1970)
In this collection since: 02.03.2014
0582 Fire helmet from France. The helmet looks like the classic fire helmets that were worn in the period from 1933 until 1970 at the French fire brigades. Base is the army steel helmet "Adrian". It was introduced already 1915th. This helmet was however made of fiberglass. Also, the comb is made of fiberglass. He is not attached separately. Inner helmet and chin strap are made like on the metal helmets. At the front, the uniform fire department emblem from brass is mounted. On the right side of the band, normally the village or the town in which the helmet was worn is written. Here the Department Var is indicated. Capital of this Department is the city of Toulon. The department has tried several times, over the years, to develop a new generation of helmets. (See Helm 485). However, several sources say that the helmet after the Second World War was prepared for metal scarcity of fiberglass. The helmet has not established itself in the fire service. It was made a short time. The manufacturer could be the company Petitcollin from Paris. Petitcollin has in 1960 tried to establish a plastic helmet on the market with the model Chartres. Only with the successor Petitcollin (as the company name) succeeded 1965 the acceptance by the fire services. (See helmet 470).
