Sheet steel helmet (˜1890)

Fire helmet from Germany. The black lacquered helmet made of sheet steel, was used in the 1890s. The attached comb and the plate surrounds are made of brass. Likewise, the chinscales and emblem. The emblem is the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Baden that was used until about 1927. Then another badge was introduced. (See Helmet 472). On the coat of arms the motto of the fire brigade is written, „Gott zur Ehr – dem Nächsten zur Wehr“. ("God to honor - the neighbor to defend."). The helmet was in possession of a fire chief. |
