France Brass helmet (˜1895)
In this collection since: 31.08.2013
0541 Fire helmet from France. The brass helmet is from the period of 1895. The crew helmet was worn at the Fire Department Boussieres. The city lies on the River Doubs, 20 km south-west of Besancon. The helmet follows the predecessor number 25, which is substantially the same. Striking difference is the attachment of the helmet crest. While the comb is attached at the predecessor with continuous rivets, the comb is attached here with two screws from the inside. The inner helmet made of leather is well preserved. The special feature of this helmet is the badge on the front. The badge complies with the badge at this time, but showes a wood fire in the shield instead of the usual grenade. "Le Buche" (wood fire) it is called in France. This variant was worn mainly in the area of eastern France, in Alsace and Lorraine.
