Fire helmet from the UK. The black plastic helmet was produced by Helmets Ltd., Wheathampstead. (Today, Helmet Integrated Systems or Cromwell) The model was called 3871. Under the same model number, it was previously also a helmet made of steel. (See helmet 374). The helmet, made of cork with fiberglass shell, was the first attempt to make the British fire helmets new in the late 1960s. The helmet model 3871 was at tis time a modern firefighter's helmet with a sturdy lining, electrically dielectric and with a very low center of gravity. But the helmet has rapidly become unpopular and was retracted. Inside the helmet there is no indication of the year of manufacture. At the front is a badge of "Airport Fire Service". This badge is the badge of the BAA (British Airports Authority PLC / LTD). It was so mounted on vehicles and helmets of the BAA. |
