Synthetic helmet (˜1970)

Fire helmet from Argentina. The white helmet in the style of the American fire helmets is quite striking. The three combs on the helmet bowl are not uncommon. The Bullard company had three combs used in the period around 1970, primarily for helmets of U.S. military fire brigades. (See Helm 239). However, the combs of this helmet come together at the front. The helmet was probably made of fiberglass. While this has been smoothed on the outside and painted white, inside the helmet bowl is to see the unusual structure. Due to this structure, you might assume that the helmet is made only of a kind of resin. At the front of the helmet, a brass coat of arms is attached. It is the Argentine National crest. |
