Third Reich until 1945 Sheetsteel helmet (˜1943)
In this collection since: 10.03.2013
0522 Fire helmet from Germany. The dark green painted steel helmet is the successor of the German Wehrmacht steel helmet M1943. The M1943 is the simplified version of the M1935. It has a much simpler inner helmet and no edge curl. Evident is the M1943 on its curved shape between eye- and neck guard. This helmet was worn after the war, until about 1970. Its usage found the helmet at units of the Reichsluftschutzbund, RLB (Air defense unit). The RLB was founded in 1935 at the instigation of Hermann Goering. Goering was Reich Marshal of the Air Force and responsible for the air defense of the population during air raids. At the front, the badge of the RLB can be seen. The helmets of the RLB were at first dark green, before they in 1938 become a dark blue colour and a double link of air protection. (see helmets 8/424).
