United Kingdom (UK) Sheetsteel helmet (˜1940)
In this collection since: 07.03.2013
0509 Fire helmet from the UK. The black steel helmet was named after its inventor Baron Solly Zuckerman. It was produced in 1940 and 1941 and was intended for the civil defense during the 2nd World War. The helmet was built in the UK from 6 different companies. This helmet comes from the company PSC (Pressed Steel Company, Oxford). As the manufacturer logo of PSC is also the date of manufacture stamped on the inside of the helmet rim (3/41). Opposite to this is the size "M" stamped. Other sizes were S and L. The original color of the helmet was olive green and can still be seen inside. It is very likely that the inner helmet was renewed. The original inner helmet was attached with a cord to the helmet bowl. In this model, the inner helmet is riveted to the helmet bowl; the other holes are sealed with rivets.
