Switzerland Leather helmet (˜1910)
In this collection since: 07.03.2013
0484 Fire helmet from Switzerland. The Helm is known in Switzerland as the "Swiss standard type". As in 1900 took place the exchange of brass helmets to leather helmets, the SFV (Schweizer Feuerwehr Verband - Swiss Association of Fire Fighters) responded with a decree on the nature and form of the new leather helmets. The resulting helmet became the “Swiss standard type”. The criteria were simple:
Pointed helmet head against striking objects. The helmet head must be provided with a comb. Inside the helmet is to use a leather strap as a head contact. This is lying on the head, when the helmet has a impact. The front shield must be so long that he can protect the eyes, but let a clear view, the neck shield must be long enough to provide drainage water over the coat collar, front and neck shield are connected together laterally to protect the ears.
At the front of the "Swiss Cross", the insignia of the first canton Schwyz is attached. Normally, it can also be seen on the lateral rosettes of the chin strap fastening, but here are lion head rosettes are to see. The helmets were manufactured in the German Offenbach am Main or in Austria.
