Switzerland Synthetic helmet (˜1960)
In this collection since: 07.03.2013
0479 Fire helmet from Switzerland. The helmet in external shape is similar to the fire brigade helmets at this time. However, the helmet is not made of steel but of leather. The light plastic helmet was purchased for units that were entrusted with elekro work during operations. Background for this was the protection against electricity in these missions. In principle, here already was running, which is starting from 1997 with the EN 443. The helmet was manufactured around 1945 initially made of leather, and then from about 1960, it was made of plastic. With the introduction of the new generation of helmets made of plastic in the 1970, the production of these helmets ran out. (See Helm 004). The helmet interior is the same as on the steel helmet. The chin strap of leather is fitted with a leather length adjustment. The helmet bowl is approx 3mm thick. The red flash on the front featuring the firefighter as a qualified electrician.
While in the leather helmets vents, made of plastic, were still embedded in the helmet bowl, on this helmet no more openings are available. The unused helmet has a sticker on the inside with the name "Ehrsam AG Wädenswil". The traditional company Ehrsam was a Swiss manufacturer of fire fighting equipment. Until 1978 she was weaving hose. With a market share of around 80% Ehrsam was a complete supplier for all the equipment of a fire department. 1984 Ehrsam was purchased by the Rolba AG, 1988; she was part of the Heinz Egolf Holding AG in Wetzikon. On 18.12.2002 the company's history ends.
