India Leather helmet (˜1930)
In this collection since: 12.01.2013
0455 Fire helmet from India. The fire helmet, made from leather, is a British product. Manufactured by the company Merryweather in the years around 1930, he was given to India. There he got a brass bezel on the visor and the hint of a brass chin strap. The helmet is very massive, the thickness of the leather on the two screens is between 5 and 7 mm, the helmet bowl itself is also 5mm thick. The high, massive leather comb is provided to the front with a hole, behind it is completely open. This is for the ventilation inside the helmet. From the former inner helmet is only the leather headband available. A little newer helmet interior has been inserted in the helmet. It was bolted to the side of the chin strap fastening. Also the chin strap is securely recent. A badge is located on the front of the helmet. It is made from metal, on it the inscription "Fire Service". The helmet was used in Bombay (now Mumbai), but the helmet badge does not fit to this city, in my opinion. Successor of these helmets were then helmets from Indian production that existed from around 1970. (See helmet 365)
