United Kingdom (UK) Cork helmet (˜1982)
In this collection since: 19.05.2012
0435 Fire helmet from England. Established in 1982 by British Standard 3864. Inside plastic green, outside cork covered with yellow painted canvas. The high helmet shape and the comb are part of the safety concept. The cork helmet (cork pressed with resin under high pressure with a plastic coating (formerly canvas) covered) has a very strong tradition in England. The type: Cromwell, Model: F135 County. Manufacturer is the English company Helmets Ltd. Rank of the user is "Leading Fireman”, because of the yellow helmet with one black stripe (see complete helmet rank markings at helmet no. 295). Compared to the helmet no. 26, this helmet has a rounded visor. On helmet no. 26, this is rather pointend.
At the front there is the badge of the BAA PLC (British Airport Authority) Fire Service. The helmet was worn at the fire department of a civilian airport.
Unusual and rare is the mounted visor. The 4mm thick, spherical visor is attached onto the side of the helmet. When closed, it extends to the chin.
