France Steel helmet (˜1926)
In this collection since: 28.03.2012
0424 Army helmet from France. The dark green helmet of the type M26 Adrian is the successor to the M15 helmet (see number 149) and predecessor of the M33 (see number 38). He was, as its name indicates, developed and built in the period around 1926. While the striking detail of the M15 is the peripheral bead, the M26 can be indicated on the 4 double rivet fastening of the helmet interior. The inside helmet itself still consists of four pieces of fabric, which are fixed by externally visible rivets on the helmet bowl. During the war years 1939 to 1943, in Germany was produced approximately 500,000 air raid helmets a year (see helmet 8) for civil protection in Germany. Due to shortage of materials, in the last two years of the war, then often the material was used, that could get somehow. This includes this prey helmet. The French Army helmet type Adrian M26 (see Helm 366) was simply bearing the insignia of German air defense.
Inside the helmet, the name Cugny was written. Whether this is a place in France or a name is not known.
