German Democratic Republic since 1949 until 1990 Synthetic helmet (˜1993)
In this collection since: 19.01.2012
0412 Fire helmet from the GDR. Unused, at the time of the re-union of Germany current, chromium plated fire helmet without visor. The VEB Plastverarbeitung in Staaken developed the helmet shell for a new fire helmet from Plast (a kind of Polycarbonat) at the end of the seventies. The helmet was then put together by the company VEB perfect (early company Lubstein) to the fire safety helmet.
This helmet got in addition a vaporized chrome layer, which should reflect about 90% of the appearing heat.
At first the helmet was in the test at some professional fire departments at the beginning of the 1980er and the professional fire departments were then using them.
There were differently long neck leathers, short for engineers (as here), large for firemen. In the context of the further development the helmet should be distributed also to the voluntary firefighters.
The inside helmet has the imprint "NVA." ( National people army, the name of the army of the German Demokratic Republik ) He is taken by the NVA steel helmet M56. The dependence of the form on the Russian fire helmets with ball visor is unmistakable. (see also helmet no.: 32)
The helmet has the size 2. In the helmets bowl is inside the number: S-3358/1. On a sign, marking the date of manufacturing in the center of the helmet bowl stands: 2/93. If the date shows the year, this would mean, that the helmet has been being built after the reunion of GDR and BRD in 1990.
