German Reich until 1918 Leather helmet (˜1840)
In this collection since: 18.01.2012
0409 Fire helmet from Germany. The heavy leather helmet was manufactured in the period around 1840 for the Bavarian army. Obsolete models have been used further since 1870 in the Bavarian fire departments. At this time, in Germany mostly brass helmets were in use. The generation of the leather helmets became standard in the fire service in 1900. The brass comb covers the whole helmet bowl, the eyeshield has a brass front edge protection. The chin strap is fastened outside on two simple brass rosettes. The helmet is completely symmetrical, eye and neck protection shield are equal in length and near the top attached to the helmet bowl. The helmet bell itself is relatively high.
