Netherlands Synthetic helmet (˜1997)
In this collection since: 08.01.2012
0405 Fireman's helmet from the Netherlands by the Royal Netherlands Navy. The naval forces have their base in the North Sea port of Den Helder. The fireman's helmet was produced by the company Cairn & Brothers, USA on 03/02/1997. The model is: RNN MK11, while RNN means Royal Netherlands Navy. The helmet was also produced specifically for requirements of this unit. The red plastic helmet with Kevlar has the classic form of American fire helmets. The basis helmet of this particular helmet type could be a 660-DD Phoenix (see helmet 370). While the inner helmet, chin strap and the neck guard is the same as at the models 660-C (see helmets 24/69), the helmet shell is significantly shortened at the backside. The visor, made of polycarbonate, is with 4 mm much more thick, than on other helmets from Cairns & Brothers. A knob allows the adjustment of head size, the chin strap has only a two-point attachment. The helmet is equipped with a Dutch cloth. (Special neck protection in the Netherlands). The cloth is secured with Velcro straps inside the helmet. Outside are attached to each side three yellow reflective tapes from 3M in an unusual way. At the front was probably the signature of the fireman.
Today, the unit uses the Dräger HPS6200. Therefore I assume, that the helmet was worn in the period between 1997 and 2009.
