Fire helmet from the former GDR. In 1949, the GDR emerged from the former Soviet occupation zone. On 01.01.1950 all previously set fire authorities were placed under the Volkspolizei (police organisation of the GDR) and assigned to the Interior Ministry. The professional fire departments were standing directly under the supervision of the Main Department „Fire Brigade“, the volunteer fire departments and fire departments of the factories were under the public administration ort he managers of the factories. The Main Department of the Interior Ministry has had only a supervisory role. First Fire helmet of the GDR was a helmet made of thermoset phenolic resin-cotton which was very similar to the vulcanized fiber helmets of the early 1930s (see Helm 377). Manufacturer was also the company Robert Lubstein in Berlin later than VEB Perfekt. (VEB= Volkseigener Betrieb= state-owned company). Robert Lubstein had all the relevant components of the 1930 trial helmet in the first GDR incorporated helmet, including the metal edge protection and ventilation holes barred. The helmet has a large head inside baffle plate made of cloth, a thin neck and a leather chin strap that is attached with 5 leather straps on the inner helmet. The helmet was worn by this form in time from 1950 to 1955 and then a further development (see helmet number 390/397) was replaced. This helmet was made in the IV quarter of 1955. The stamping on the inside of the helmet interior gives this information. The helmet was one of the last of this series. |
