Netherlands Metal helmet (˜1945)
In this collection since: 19.02.2011
0374 Fire helmet from the Netherlands.
The black helmet is a helmet from British production. The helmet was called Mark IV and it was introduced in 1950 in the UK. He was the successor of the flatter army steel helmet Mark II, that already existed since 1936. The Mark IV helmet was worn in the UK at the army and the air raid units. After the 2nd World War, he came to the fire service. But he was quickly replaced by cork helmets. In the Netherlands, the helmet was mainly used at work fire brigades.
The helmet was worn after the Second World War. The helmet is very powerful in its form. The helmet bowl is very high, the pages are below the outside. The edge is circumferentially reinforced. The inner helmet is mounted on a single central screw. The screw is located in the middle of the head baffle plate at the top of the helmet bell. From there, four plastic tabs running down to them the headband is attached. The adjustment of the head size is done by a cord with which the leather is also set close to the headband. At the headband, the neck leather is attached. The chin strap of elastic tissue is separately attached to the helmet bowl.
At the front, the words "PTT - Posterijen, Telegrafie en Telefonie " can be seen. The PTT was the state's postal and telecommunications companies in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1918 and privatized in 1989. In 1998 the company was split in the postal sector PTT Post (now TNT Post) and the telecommunications sector KPN.
The helmet was originally black. It was painted white for a Bevelvoerderer.
