Mexico Synthetic helmet (˜1980)
In this collection since: 15.06.2010
0361 Fire helmet from Mexico. The black helmet of the type "Aguila Negra", was made, as the previous number 338,339,340, from fiberglass. Manufacturer is the Brithis company Jo Bird. The form, similar to the old Henry helmets from England, was a little bit modified, but inside, the helmet was greatly improved. Now, here is an inner helmet added which can be adapted to the head size. The adjustment is a modern dial system. The chin strap can be locked via a quick release plastic. The helmet is much larger. The edge of the helmet is protected by a surrounding protective rubber. For the protection of the face, a face shield is affixed. The visor of thick polycarbonate is attached to the side of the helmet. The visor extends to the chin. The fastening and locking screws are made from brass and showes the coat of arms of the Mexican fire departments. The helmet was used in the Mexican capital, Mexico City in the years between 1970 and 1980 (sometimes 1992). It is used by the units of fire brigade, civil protection and rescue services. Due to the short production time, this helmet is rare. Firefighters wear the helmet in black, red helmets are worn by captain and lieutenant. The rescue service has yellow helmets and white helmets are worn by senior officers like Fire Chief.
Because of this helmet is a helmet for the use in emergencies, the usual brass badge on the front does not exist. It will not be worn on emergency helmets and is reserved for ceremonial purposes.
In the years 1980 to 1995 in Mexico the yellow Bullard helmet was used by the firefighters. Since 1986, various American types of helmets are purchased.
