United States Synthetic helmet (˜1968)
In this collection since: 07.04.2010
0345 Fire helmet from the United States of America. The golden polycarbonate helmet by the manufacturer Bell Toptex from Long Beach, California was built in 1968. The helmet could be precursor of helmet 215, which was built around 1972 by the company Signal Division / Federal Signal Corporation as Federal helmet type FH-2. Whether the company Bell Toptex is predecessor of the company Signal Division, is not known. The helmet makes a very solid impression. The helmet bell, framed, complete with an edge protection, recalls in its original form to the German helmets DIN 14940, a stiff neck guard, also made of polycarbonate, is - by push buttons mounted – separately. Tthe spherical, very flashy and rather unusual visor of soft butyl resin is laterally attached to the helmet.
There is no inner helmet in the classic sense of it. The Bell helmet is lined with hard Styrofoam, another, softer head support provides some comfort. Circling a pickled nylon fabric is used as a head band, a size adjustment is not provided. The helmet was made for the head size 7 ½. The chin strap made of polyester is attached by a 4 - point of attachment to the helmet. The chinstrap can be opened by a closure from aluminum. The helmet was worn by the Fire Department San Jose, California. The red badge on the front of the fire brigade is appropriate.
Inside the helmet is a small label manufacturer and a reference to standard: 7 1 / 2 Bell-Toptex. MFG UNDER PAT 2,625,683 LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA. The company Toptex, mainly manufactures motorcycle helmets and helmets fort he police.
