Malta Synthetic helmet (˜1999)
In this collection since: 17.03.2010
0344 Fire helmet from Malta. The silver- grey helmet made from synthetic material, was produced by the Italian company Sicor S.p.A. (arose 1991 from the fusion of La Lombarda Antinfortunistica and Sureco).
The type is called "Amber VF2". He is an experimental helmet as his predecessor "Amber VF1 (see Helm 302) and predecessor in the series helmets „VFR2000“. The helmet was tested in the period between 2002 and 2004 and possibly given to Malta than. There he was taken between 2005 and 2008 at the Civil Defence (Dipartiment Tal-Protezzjoni Civili or Civil Protection Department) before they switched to the MSA F1.
While the Amber VF1 still have clear visors and not a head size adjustments, the helmets Amber VF2 have a clear, small eye visor and a golden face visor. Furthermore, the head size could be adjusted by a wheel between 53-63cm,
the chin strap can now opened by a lock. At the front, a lamp holder has been added.
Still, the helmet but makes the impression of bad processing, so, the rubber neck protection is poorly attached to the helmet, the knob for adjusting the helmet size too small, the clear visor with gloves badly to move by the two hangers.
Again, this helmet has also not an indication to the helmet manufacturer or helmet type.
The helmet itself is made of fiberglass. The visor and the short neck protection is fitted separately to the helmet bell.
It is made of thick rubber. The attachment of a longer and seperate neck protection is not planned.
The outer face protection visor from gold-vaporized plastic is adapted to the face. Like on the helmets from the company Dräger, the area of the nose is issued.
The visor does not close to the side of the helmet bell, but let not much open.
Inserted, the lower part of the visor extended the eye shield. Inside, the helmet is fitted with a shock absorbing cushion. The helmet interior is densely attached to this pad. The chin strap, made of nylon band, is fixed to the helmet on both sides, given the adjustment by a metal eyelet. A closure is now appropriate. It is made of metal and seems to be too heavy.
Sidely lying outside attachment points ensure the installation of a suitable respirator mask. The silver- grey helmets are reserved for the professional firefighters in Malta.
At the front, the badge of the Maltese civil protection is appropriate.
The distinction of the colors and units is as follows:
White = Director / Fire Chief
Black = Operation Manager (Operational Command service)
Red = Station Officer (leader of a station)
Yellow = Leading Officer (shift leaders)
Silver / Grey = professional firefighter
Blue = Volunteer Fire Department
In part, also with a reflective, blue and yellow stripes.
Since 2008, the CPD's helmet ist he MSA F1.
Until January 2000, the Fire Department in Malta was a unit of the police (MPFB - Malta Police Fire Brigade). With the foundation of the civil protection in Malta, the fire service and civil protection work was tooked over by this.
