Chile Synthetic helmet (˜1970)
In this collection since: 19.09.2008
0316 Firefighters helmet from the Chilean capital Santiago de Chile.
The helmet is from the local Fire Department Division 2 (Segunda Compañía de Bomberos ESMERALDA), the Segundinos. It is interesting that some of the 22 fire stations with their badge refer to their origin.
For example, the unit 4 Pompe de France, 10 the Bomba Espana, 11 the Italian, 14 the United Kingdom and the German (God with us – Gott mit uns), the 15th.
The black helmet does not seem to be manufactured industrially. As the Mexican helmet No. 150 the helmet seems to be produced manually from fiberglass and painted. The shape of the helmet is very similar to the shape of Norwegian helmets (see helmet 178), striking are the narrow, well-defined comb and the tapered shape of the eye shield. The helmet interior consists only of the plastic strips wich are fastened on 4 points to the helmet bowl, the forehead strap is covered with leather, the head size adjustment is possible bytaking other holes. The same applies to the leather chinstrap. This has no way to open, he can only be adjusted in length. All in all a very simple and even severe helmet. At the front is the mark 2 for the second station affixed. The badge is made of painted sheet metal with two wires attached to the helmet.
It is unclear when the helmet was worn (used) and who is the manufacturer of the helmet.
