Portugal Brass helmet (˜1945)
In this collection since: 25.05.2006
0265 Fire helmet from the Portuguese city of Dafundo in Central- Portugal at 1945. The brass helmet resembles the French helmets at 1930 (see helmet 25), but he seems to be newer. The comb is no longer screwed on, but firmly complet connected to the helmet bell. Since 1900, the brass helmets only were used for parades in Portugal. Till this day, the helmets were used for parades. For fire use one wore leather helmets which were replaced by Polycarbonat helmets later. The emblem of Portugal, the tap, is in the front. Under this the stroke of the city of Dafundo stands, the coat of arms of the town is in the shield represented. The tap with appropriately changing town name and shield is carried in Portugal at all voluntary fire departments. The 5 professional fire departments of Portugal bear badges respectively of their own. (see helmet 266). The mount is attached for the parade cord at the comb of the helmet. The one meter long, red cord, is provided with two tassles at the end. The inside helmet is relatively new, the leather only used a little. These helmets were possibly repaired again and again.

Question: Was the cord weared around the neck or was the cord wrapped over the helmet at parades? How has this cord held then?
