Denmark Metal helmet (˜1923)
In this collection since: 03.02.2004
0176 Danish fire helmet from steel sheet. This is the M23 of the Danish army. In this form the Danish army worn the steel helmets. The black helmet shows a very unconventional form. The to the outside flanged edges and the atypical form also fells into the eyes. The helmet doesn't have any front and neck shield, the helmet bell ends almost vertically. Therefore the sides are drawn to the outside. The helmet all in all reminds of the German air safety helmets, wich one also existed without front shield. The helmet has no stamps and no imprint, wich gives an information about by whom this helmet was produced. On the front stands the letters E.S.F.B. written into a yellow- gold frame.
The initials F.B. could stand for Frivillige Brandværn (Volunteer Firebrigade) E.S. could stand for the town.
The helmet is from a fire chief of an authority on the Danish island of Als in South Jutland.
Presumably, the helmet is from the years just after WW2 and it was scrapped in 1968.
Falck, the Danish organization had not used these helmets. Firefighters at Falck wear helmets after the German pattern till the early 2000.
In Denmark Falck organization uses the colors red and white for their helmets, while some larger cities and towns have their own fire departments. This wear black helmets.
