Greece Leather helmet (˜1967)
In this collection since: 21.12.2003
0174 Greek fire helmet, made of leather, on the Austrian model. Enlisted rank. Because Austria was significantly involved in the reorganization of the Greek fire fighting system, it is not surprising to find helmets after
Austrian example in Greece.
These helmets were worn from approximately 1967 to 1974 during the time of the Greek military dictatorship. The badge on the front shows the Greek cross (State Emblem) with the typical cockade (Gardestern) and on top also the Phoenix wich was worn only during the military dictatorship (Junta). After the Hellenic Republic was founded, the Phoenix was partially removed with tools. Successor is helmet number 107. The helmet shape is slightly higher and bulkier than the number 107. The massive gold chain shed is fixed on the sides and held by two rosettes (lion head). The high comb is made of brass, the sides is decorated with laurel leaves and extends to the posterior neck plate.
Officers wore the same helmet, but had additional sidely bay leaf applications.
