English fire helmet of the "WVS CIVIL DEFENCE". The helmet was used between 1936 - 1950 in civil protection units. It was produced along the lines of the British military model of 1936. The helmet was manufactured in 1941 by the company JSS (Joseph Sankey & Sons, Bilton). It was made from steel in the years 1938-1941. The year of manufacture is stamped on the inside of the helmet. The non-adjustable inner helmet was manufactured by another company. The stamp shows the character here M.v.D. The helmet size was built in 58. The WVS badge stands for Women's Voluntary Service, a unit of the United Kingdom wich was foundet in 1938 for the air raid (Air Raid Precautions ARP). The unit is still in existence (2013), but to other, non-profit purposes.
