Third Reich until 1945 Metal helmet (˜1934)
In this collection since: 17.10.2001
0084 This helmet is an armed forces steel helmet altered to the fire helmet Model M42. This one was dictated with order of 4-26-1934 as a fire safety helmet. The M42 was the latest produced model of the armed forces with a no more flanged edge. The helmet has a round approach of the neck guard and a cockscomb put on made of aluminum after a Prussian example since 1934. Combs for higher defense leaders had to be golden like the buttons. No emblems at the helmet. Unusual feature here: The inside helmet is fastened to the helmet bell merely with 3 blanks, the at the side one stamped 2 x 7 cooling holes are replaced by one bigger hole each here. The helmet has no flanged edge as mentioned and is heavy relatively. There is a piece of leather at the inside helmet the name "Sutterer" stands on this. The blackened comb seems to have been painted red formerly. Stamp behind: Q64 DN542. Manufacturer brand: "RL/DRG". Q64 indicates the manufacturer of the bell, here Quist (Q) from Esslingen. The 64 stands for the bell size, 64 (cm of inside size in the bell) correspond to a head size of 57-58 cm in this case with a built-in inside helmet. DRGM stands for "German empire use sample", virtually the predecessor of the DIN. ( German Industrie Norm )
